Gutenberg's great idea.
Typography is the art and science of communicating with graphic forms. Western typography has about 100 or so instantly recognizable forms a.k.a. the alphabet. But there's more to communicating with type than most of us realize. Legibility is based on the way we read, and in turn, the way we see things. Knowing the science behind the art helps a designer maximize legibility and balance aesthetic goals with solid communication.
